Fruit cocktail

Ingredients

  • The Liquid Base: * A mixture of fruit juices (often orange, pineapple or mango nectar).
    • A little grenadine syrup (for the color gradient and the sugar).
  • Fresh fruit (diced):
    • Apples.
    • Bananas.
    • Grapes (whole or cut in half).
    • Mangoes or pineapples (depending on the season).
  • The touch of sweetness:
    • Sweetened condensed milk (sometimes added for a creamier version).
    • A little vanilla sugar.
  • Freshness: Lots of ice cubes.

Preparation Steps

1. Preparing the fruit

Wash all fruit thoroughly. Peel them if necessary and cut them into small uniform cubes. It is important that the pieces are small enough to be eaten easily with a spoon or a wide straw.

2. The mixture

In a large salad bowl or pitcher, pour the fruit juice base. If you want a more fragrant version, you can add a touch of vanilla or orange blossom extract.

3. Assembly

Add the fruit pieces to the juice. Mix gently so as not to crush the softer fruits (like bananas).

4. The visual (the cocktail effect)

To obtain a nice visual effect, pour a little grenadine syrup at the bottom of each glass before pouring in the fruit and juice mixture. The syrup will remain at the bottom, creating a nice shade of red.

5. Service

Add the ice cubes at the last moment so as not to dilute the flavors too much. Serve very chilled in large glasses.

Sala's Tips

  • Freshness: To prevent apples and bananas from blackening (oxidation), pour a little lemon juice over the fruit as soon as they are cut.
  • Personalization: You can vary the fruits depending on what you have at the market (papaya, melon, etc.).
